Lebowski Fest Coming to SF Sept 5 & 6

Posted on 22 June 2008 by Jeff O.

lfsf_150x150I’m a pretty big fan of the Coen Brothers 1998 film The Big Lebowski staring Jeff Bridges as the unassuming and unlikely hero The Dude (or el duderino if you aren’t into the whole brevity thing).  It’s the story of one man’s quest to get his rug back and the trials and tribulations that befall him along the way. But really its much much more than that, to some, no… many people its a celebration of a life lived along the path of least resistance where white russians, long baths, and bowling are the things that matter most.  The Lebowski Fest is a gathering of like minded folks getting together to recognize and appreciate the place The Dude and his easy going attitude have in our collective hearts, and its coming to San Francisco September 5th and 6th.

MC Chris is in The House

Posted on 22 June 2008 by LoryGil

In April of 2007, I was lucky enough to interview MC Chris for Geek Monthly Magazine. Here is the interview as it was published in Issue 6 of the magazine.

Known best for his voice-over work on Cartoon Network’s “Adult Swim” as Hesh on “Sealab 2021” and MC Pee Pants on “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” mc chris wrote  “I Want Candy” for his diaper-wearing spider persona.  His Internet hit, “Fett’s Vette” gained him notoriety as a nerd-rapper and his popularity has been growing ever since. He writes songs with titles like, “FTW”, “Geek” and “Wii’d,” and made his big-screen debut in “Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film For Theaters.” Though his music may transcend boundaries, he is still a geek, spelled G-double E-K.  Geek Monthly spoke with mc chris on the phone while he was on tour supporting his newest album, dungeon master of ceremonies. 4th Edition Blows Doors Down

Posted on 20 June 2008 by LoryGil

In preparation for writing this, I had to ask myself, “Can you do a book review for a player’s handbook?” The answer is, yes, especially when said player’s handbook is Dungeons and Dragons© 4th Edition Player’s Handbook. I know what you’re thinking, “I didn’t even know they made a second edition.” Well, they did…and a 3rd, so there. Continue Reading

D.O.N.D.O.N. Japanese thrash reissued!

Posted on 19 June 2008 by Craig

dondon coverThe years 1985 through 1991 make up my favorite period in Japanese hardcore. The bands of Japan at the time were mixing the crusty gloom of England’s Discharge with the thrashing tempo of mid 80’s euro thrash like B.G.K. If that’s not bad ass enough, they also embraced heavy metal’s crunch and blazing lead guitars. It’s funny that I like the ‘85-‘91 period so much because that’s the exact life span of the mighty band D.O.N.D.O.N. They released a couple of EP’s, a split flexi, a handful of compilation songs and two LP’s. The second of which is the “Last Warning” LP. It was originally released in 1991 on Never Again Records, in a small pressing of only 200. This basically makes “Last Warning” a lost record to those of us outside of the bands home of Japan. At the time of the album’s release, Japan had been experiencing a tsunami wave of thrash-fueled hardcore punk bands, many of whom never had proper releases outside of their native country. Luckily Schizophrenic Records has re-released this piece of blazing hardcore history in the U.S. and Canada. Continue Reading

She Killed In Ecstasy

Posted on 16 June 2008 by Jaz

There is no denying that the filmography of Jesus “Jess” Franco is a vast trash bin full of horribly inedible garbage. However, if you are patient and diligent there are delicious cookies to be found there amongst the waste. Continue Reading

What’s A Trash Cookie?

Posted on 15 June 2008 by Jaz

In the great hierarchy of culture the top tier is obvious. There is little dispute that The Beatles are a great band, Psycho a great film and Da Vinci a great artist. The second level requires a perhaps a bit more digging. Not every person you see on the street would recognize the merits of The Ramones, Taxi Driver, and Robert Williams. However there are vast groups of people that are well aware that the Ramones are as important as the Beatles and so on. The top two shelves offer great art but it is rarely ever a challenge to find something that you will enjoy. While we here at Trash Cookies are all fans of every level of culture we have chosen to focus our lenses on the bottom shelves. Continue Reading
