Come to Sacramento…

Posted on 15 April 2009 by Jeff O.

As a Sacramento outsider here are my favorite things to do when visiting California’s capitol…

1. Eat. Eat lots. Sacramento has some amazing food, especially breakfast food.  If you are like me not much beats a good meal to start the day.  When I’m in town there are two places I will not miss; Cornerstone, famous for its fast and friendly service, eggs benny and biscuits and gravy and Stagecoach Too who’s chicken fried steak and eggs comes on three different plates; one for your steak, one for your eggs and one for your biscuits and gravy. You might need to be wheeled out of there.

2. Spend some time down at World’s Best Comics & Toys, you’ll be glad you did.  They specialize in tracking down ‘lost’ cartoons from days gone by, carry an extensive line of new and old comics, graphic novels,  as well as new and vintage toys. Dave, the owner and our very own Jaz know a buttload about comics and can help you track down just about anything.

3. Go see a movie at the Crest Theater. It’s amazing.  There’s been a theater where the Crest currently sits since 1912.  Originally a vaudville house, The Empress and then the Hippodrome played host many different entertainment acts throughout the years.  In 1946 the interior of the Hippodrome was demolished and the Crest was built inside the shell the Hippdrome left behind. It’s a great piece of California history and also a great spot to catch a film.

4. Skip some rocks down along the banks of the American River.  There’s nothing better than a relaxing afternoon along the river and with 15,000 acres of land, including four golf courses, a nationally renowned nature center, and miles of trails and waterways there’s tons of fun to be had, even if you just want to sit and watch the clouds pass by.

To me Sacramento is a big city with the feel of a small town, the folks are nice, there’s lots to keep you entertained and they’ve got some great food. I recomend spending some time here soaking up the history and culture of our state’s capitol.
